We’ve picked out a few highlights to get you started. And, with Discover Parks reopening for the season, it’s an easy base for exploring what’s on in Herefordshire in March.

Let’s go Racing!

March is a busy one at Hereford Racecourse with a full National Hunt jump racing programme. However, you don’t need to be a student of form to get a lot out of the races.

You can experience the excitement of the parade ring and see these magnificent animals up close. Watch the horses walk with their grooms and pick your favourite! Then the jockeys come out in their silks, mount up and canter off to the start!

Ladies Day at Hereford Racecourse on Saturday March 7th

It’s your chance to show off your winter wardrobe whilst enjoying the exciting thrill of jump races. A mix of fashion and a flutter alongside great food and drink. An ideal event to launch your social season with friends! However, you’ll need to book in advance as tickets sell out. Hospitality packages are available too.

Midweek Race day experience 18th & 25th March

There are two midweek race days during March on Wednesdays 18th and 25th. Although Hereford is quite a small course, importantly there’s plenty of parking.

There’s generally 6-8 races on the card, whilst doors open at 1230pm with the first race at 2pm and the last at 5pm. With plenty of parking and a friendly atmosphere it’s a really good way to experience the sport if it’s your first time.

Ludlow Racecourse 19th and 30th March

Pop over the border in Shropshire and visit Ludlow where they’ve been racing since 1725. Ludlow Racecourse is one of the few privately owned courses in the country with stunning views of the Clee Hills. Like Hereford, it’s a jumps course with a couple of dates in March on the 19th & 30th.

The 24th Borderlines film festival takes place across Herefordshire and the wider Marches area. Shropshire, Malvern and the borders all host venues. It’s a chance to watch films at 25 different locations, bringing an added layer to the cinematic experience.

It’s the UK’s largest rural film festival and ‘cinemas’ include the network of village halls that are part of Flicks in the Sticks in Herefordshire. You’ll find films to watch in quirky locations that are not available at most cinemas. From rare or vintage classics alongside relatively new films.

Leominster Independents Day – Saturday 14th March

Just a short drive from Discover Parks, is the bustling market town of Leominster (pro Lemster – get it wrong at your peril!).

Leominster Independents Day puts the town’s brilliant collection of independent shops and eateries front and centre. There’s a big independent Market and Farmers Market in the historic Corn Square. Support local businesses that make this town so unique and boost the local economy too.

Parking is free and the day runs between 9am-3pm.

Lyde Court Sunday Market- Sunday 22nd March

On the A49 between Leominster and Herefordshire is Lyde Court. It’s a countryside venue set in rolling countryside which makes the most of its historic barns.

The Sunday market is full of stalls from homewares to clothes, artisanal crafts to local, seasonal produce. Markets are held in the characterful Festival Barn whilst coffee, tea, cakes, brunch and lunch are also served during the event in the Lyde Court cafe.

Parking and entry is free. 10am-4pm.

Here’s a couple you may want to attend:

Thursday 5th March – The Weobley Ponds project – 60 ponds have been discovered around the village of Weobley, and where’s there’s a pond…there’s wildlife.

Tuesday 24th March – Mustelids and other mammals (mustelids are weasely/otter things apparently!)
