What’s on in Herefordshire in October – mushrooms, apples and Halloween   - Discover Parks Skip to content

October, at the tail end of harvesting, is a busy time in Herefordshire for events that are rooted in the earth! There’s a festival of mushrooms and toadstools, apple and pear events and of course pumpkin and Halloween celebrations at the end of the month.

Here’s a whistle stop tour of just a few of the events in Herefordshire during October 2025.

Fungi Town

3rd – 5th October

This event is a UK first! It’s dedicated to mushrooms, toadstools, lichens, moulds and yeasts. Hosted in the renovated Hay Castle in the Town of Books, Hay on Wye, and in shops and venues across the town. It’s a fungal town takeover which includes UK Fungus Day on October 4th.

There’s loads of events including expert talks from growers, exhibitions, feasts, workshops and films. Who knew fungi could be so exciting!

The whole weekend is free and family friendly.

Apple Pressing

4th– 5th October

This celebration of apples takes place at Berrington Hall, just outside Leominster. Berrington has a heritage orchard where rare varieties of apples are grown. The day will see apple pressing demonstrations and visitors will be able to pick up windfalls from the trees.

Herefordshire is one of the most important apple-growing regions in the UK and is especially famous for its many cider producers including Bulmers and Westons.  The county is often called the ‘Cider Capital of the UK’.

Magna Carta Weekend

17th –18th October

The Magna Carta is one of the most important and known documents in English history. Signed in 1215, it was a historic charter in which King John agreed to limit his power and uphold certain legal rights, laying the foundation for modern democracy and the rule of law.

Hereford Cathedral is home to one of only four surviving 1217 editions of the Magna Carta, issued during the reign of Henry III. For one weekend only this incredible document will be on display, meaning you can get quite close to a proper piece of history! It’ll be the only chance to see this document in 2025. It’ll be on display in the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library building next door to Hereford Cathedral.
