This takes place at Hampton Gardens and is a discovery of the deep, dark past of Herefordshire through its folklore. There are 13 shiny Easter eggs to find. Once discovered they reveal a historic Herefordshire tale. There are clues to decode and a surprise at the end.

Hampton Gardens is between Leominster and Hereford on the A49 at Hope-under-Dinmore.

Read our Herefordshire Homes and Gardens Blog for more on Hampton Gardens.

A new event for the racecourse that does ‘specials’ really well. This is a mix of jump racing with a full day of family fun. For the racing novice there’s something to see from the parade ring to the final furlong. Hereford is a small course, so you’re never far away from the action.

The fun comes from inflatables, mini Landers (kid-size Land Rovers), falconry and facepainting plus of course an Easter egg hunt.

Gates open just after midday, there’s family food bundles available, young people under 17 are free, and there’s bags and bags of parking.

Kington Marmalade Competition – 11th April

Yes, honestly, it’s a thing! It’s an annual event where you can either enter your own homemade marmalade or just go along and have a look!

It takes place in the Oxford Arms pub so you can have something a little stronger if marmalade just isn’t enough.

Guided Blossom Tours – 13th April – 15th May

Image Visit Herefordshire

Herefordshire is apple orchard country. Before the fruit comes the blossom, and you can enjoy it by eBike or on foot at White Heron Estates near Kington in North Herefordshire.

What makes this even more enjoyable is that after your eyes have drunk in the pink blossom, you can actually consume drinks made on the estate. These include cider, apple juice and British Cassis made from the estate’s blackcurrant fields.

This is a 4th generation working farm and your tour is led by people steeped in knowledge – because as we all know… the answer lies in the soil!

Herefordshire Armlet on Tour – 15th April

If you like history, you’ll love this! It doesn’t look much but it reveals a lot of Herefordshire’s historic past.

It’s an armlet from a hoard of historic coins and jewellery found near Leominster in 2015. There’s a bit of a story here as the people who found the hoard sold items to dealer hoping to keep the profits for themselves. The perpetrators were arrested, but sadly much of the hoard was never recovered.

This armlet was though, and it’ll be in Kington where Herefordshire’s Curator of Archaeology, Dr Katie Miller, will give a talk about its significance. You’ll need to book.

Hay-on-Wye Market

Hay hosts a market every Thursday and on the first Saturday in the month. You’ll find artisanal producers and traders selling everything from local produce, fresh bread, cakes, meats and fish. Plus, there’s homewares, vintage items and plants.

It’s a great day out as there’s so much to see in Hay, from the castle to the many bookshops, for which Hay is renowned.

Hay is just over half an hour’s drive from Arrow Bank and Pearl Lake and 50 minutes from Rockbridge.
