Longtime Discover Parks owners, Jane and Richard Lodge have been coming to Pearl Lake since before they were married.
Richard’s parents were already the proud owners of a caravan when Richard discovered that the way to one woman’s heart was a static stay! Jane and Richard’s love affair with Pearl Lake is still going strong.
Over the years there’s not many places locally the pair haven’t visited. In the first of a series of travel blogs, Jane share some of their favourites.
In the beginning ……. That sounds a bit biblical!
But it was almost as long ago when Richard first asked me out for the day. We’d known each other for about a week when he suggested that we visited Pearl Lake, where his parents had a caravan. I was 22 years old and was instantly hooked.
Seven years later, married with two children, we bought our first caravan at Pearl Lake. £900 got us a starter holiday home and changed our lives forever. We love Pearl Lake and have been here for almost as long as the lake itself!
The park is situated in beautiful North Herefordshire, close to the Welsh border, so is perfectly placed for getting out and about and discovering the stunning countryside, fabulous local attractions and beauty spots. We’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do in Herefordshire.
Croft Castle, Herefordshire
The first place we’d like to share with you is just 10 minutes away from Pearl Lake.
Croft Castle near Leominster is a National Trust property which features a historic house, walled garden, beautiful parkland and fabulous walks that take in ancient trees, picturesque lakes and valleys, hill forts and panoramic views.
There’s plenty for the kids to do too. Our grandchildren love the Natural Play Area which supports outdoor activities and creative play. The Carpenter’s Tea Room offers very respectable refreshments too.
We are National Trust members, so for a reasonable annual subscription, we can enjoy all Croft has to offer, as many times as we like throughout the year as the seasons change.
These photos are taken on various visits during spring 2024.
